BIOGRAPHY

Neon Yang is a Singaporean author who identifies as queer and non-binary. Graduating from Clarion West in 2013, they were awarded a postgraduate scholarship in 2015 by the National Arts Council of Singapore to pursue their MA in Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia in Britain. 

A postcolonial intersectional feminist, Yang’s work often examines issues surrounding race, class and gender. They are best known for the Tensorate series of novellas published by tor.com: The Black Tides of Heaven (2017), The Red Threads of Fortune (2017) and The Descent of Monsters (2018). The series was well-received, having been on the Honor List for the Tiptree award and being nominated for the Hugo, Nebula, World Fantasy and Locus awards. It has also been reviewed by The Straits Times, Publishers Weekly, Geeks OUT and Gizmodo

They have written over two dozen pieces of short fiction that have appeared in literary magazines and anthologies such as Uncanny Magazine, Lightspeed, Strange Horizons, Lackington’s, We See a Different Frontier: A Postcolonial Speculative Fiction Anthology and From the Belly of the Cat. Their work was also published in the short story collection, The Djinn Falls In Love & Other Stories

In previous incarnations, Yang has been a molecular biologist, a writer for animation, comics and games and a journalist for one of Singapore’s major newspapers. They are currently working on the fourth novel in the Tensorate series, The Ascent to Godhood, which is forthcoming in June 2019.
