BIOGRAPHY
Lesley-Anne and Monica Lim are a mother-daughter writing duo. They are best known for the Danger Dan series, which came to be when Lesley-Anne, then 16, decided to team up with her mother to create the superhero duo Danger Dan and Gadget Girl.
The first book in the series, Danger Dan Confronts the Merlion Mastermind, was published in 2014 and they have since published 13 books together. This includes three non-fiction books – Secrets of Singapore, Secrets of Singapore: National Museum and Secrets of Singapore: Botanic Gardens – that also features Danger Dan and Gadget Girl. They have also completed the fourth book in the Secrets of Singapore series, Secrets of Singapore: Changi Airport (2019).
Danger Dan Confronts the Merlion Mastermind was longlisted for the Red Dot Book Awards (Younger Readers Category, 2014-2015), while Danger Dan Spooks the Peculiar Peranakan Pirate and Danger Dan Creates the Ultimate Utama Uproar were both shortlisted for the Popular Readers’ Choice Award English (Children) Category in 2014 and 2015 respectively. The first book in the Danger Dan and Gadget Girl series, Danger Dan and Gadget Girl: The Animal Abduction, was also shortlisted for the 2017 Singapore Book Awards for Best Middle Grade/Young Adult Title.
Secrets of Singapore came in 2nd place at the Red Dot Book Award 2016-2017 (Older Readers), while Secrets of Singapore: National Museum clinched two prizes at the Popular Readers' Choice Awards 2017: 2nd prize in the English (Children) and Best Cover Award the English (Children).
The authors have been invited to give a number of talks and workshops regarding their books and writing. They have also been featured by websites and local media including Youth.sg, The Straits Times, South China Morning Post and TODAYonline.
Presently, Monica is with Hedgehog Communications, a writing agency she set up in 2002 that offers a full spectrum of copywriting services, from annual reports and corporate brochures to newsletters and websites. She had previously published a solo book in 2013 titled The Good, The Bad and the PSLE. Lesley-Anne is currently a full-time student.
