BIOGRAPHY

Jon Gresham was born in England, grew up in Australia and has lived in Singapore and Thailand for the last 19 years.

His debut collection of short stories, We Rose Up Slowly, was first published in 2015 and has received praise from The Straits Times, literary journal QLRS, local book authors and book reviewers. The book is now in its second edition.

His writing has been featured in several anthologies, literary journals and magazines. These include The Epigram Books Collection of Best New Singapore Short Stories, A Luxury We Cannot Afford, Twenty Four Flavours, Eastern Heathens, Esquire Singapore, QLRS and Ceriph. He is also the co-editor of a Singaporean and Australian anthology, which is set to be published in 2019.

Jon has been a workshop leader for over 80 creative writing workshops and was the organiser of the Graphic Medicine Workshops for both Sing Lit Station and Nanyang Technological University in 2018. He has also been a featured author and moderator in the Singapore Writer’s Festival for three consecutive years.

Outside of writing, Jon is a photographer and his work has been featured in print (Constellations, Nanyang Technological University’s School of Humanities magazine and This Is Not A Safety Barrier), online (South Australian Writers Centre’s website, Softblow and The A-List) and in articles and videos focusing on forced prostitution and slavery in India (Changing prices for sex work in Sonagachi, a Kolkata red-light district and India’s Disgrace: Sexual Slavery).

He has won several accolades for his photographs, including being a finalist for two Photoblog Awards (Best Asian & Oceanian Photoblog and Best Black & White Photography) as well as for the Kuala Lumpur International Photoawards, and a special mention from The Photographic Society of the National University of Singapore in the Montage Open Competition for his photograph, Beggar Beside The Mercedes Benz.

Currently, he is the Co-founder and Director for Sing Lit Station Limited, a Singaporean literary non-profit organisation. He leads both the Book a Writer Programme and Writing the City, a creative writing community where he is also a workshop presenter.
